Upfront evaluation is overrated.
Most engineers spend an excessive amount of time optimizing particulars (excellent wing profiles, lovely structural geometry, marginal drag positive aspects…). That mindset works on airliners however is tremendous counterproductive when you find yourself inventing one thing new.
Early on, you have no idea which issues lie between you and your finish purpose. Analysing those you *assume* matter is the way you burn months fixing the mistaken issues. We all know, we used to do it!
So now we do “first ideas physics” → “prototype” → “fly till the following factor breaks”.
That dramatically narrows the issue area. Fewer issues to analyse, however much more depth the place it truly issues. Solely then can we go deep: not simply simulation, however rigorous floor assessments, subcomponent testing, and flight validation.
